Welcome to the Palatinate – castle country
One romantic ruined castle after another, mighty cliffs and the Palatinate Forest, designated a biosphere reserve by UNESCO, all add up to make the south of Rhineland‑Palatinate the perfect destination.
In the Middle Ages, it was one of the most politically important regions in the Empire. Kings and emperors steered the destinies of half of Europe from here. The Celts, Romans and a Bavarian king have also left their marks here.
